Top 10 traditional localities to live as a family

When relocating when you have a family, there are a number of aspects that one would need to take into consideration.

Malta being a small island, the distances between one locality to another are short, still one might want to take into consideration proximity to schools, playgrounds and other amenities. Localities mentioned below are in order from North to South, all of them are beautiful in their own way. Every family should decide which area is the best for them taking into consideration workplaces, schools etc.

1. Mellieha

Situated in the northern region of the Maltese Islands, Mellieha has both the traditional and modern characteristics. On the outskirts of Mellieha, one would find an array of modern buildings such as apartments and villas. However, as one goes into the
center, one would find older houses. Living in Mellieha will allow you to enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches but also enjoy walks in the countryside.

2. Mgarr, Malta

A small village in the northern part of the island, offers plenty of fresh air and walks in the countryside. Again, one can find a choice of modern apartments and town houses. Mgarr, Malta is a quiet village with few shops, but still have the basic amenities.

3. Manikata

Another quiet beautifully located village on the North of Malta, strategically positioned half way between the best beaches in Malta, yet quiet residential, typical Maltese village. Surrounded by fields it became a safe refuge area for many well-off people running away from hustle and bustle of Sliema.

4. Siggiewi

Siggiewi is the third largest council in Malta by surface area. Despite being one of the largest council, it still has retained its typical Maltese characteristics. The village core is still very traditional with its narrow streets and lovely townhouses. Up until a decade ago, many of its population were working in the fields surrounding Siggiewi.

This quiet location recently has undergone significant development, giving a possibility to more people to settle here and enjoy both central location, new property and countryside walk.

Notwithstanding the modernization, one can still find the countryside, where one can enjoy some walks with the family.

5. Three villages Attard-Balzan-Lija

Situated in the heart of the island Three Villages are a choice for many families who demand good connectivity with different parts of Malta, excellent public schools, proximity to large supermarkets, proximity to University and Mater Dei Hospital, yet the comfort of a quiet residential area.

This area is full of both traditional Town Houses in the heart of each village, a number of Terraced Houses and Villas with beautiful gardens and orange groves, as well as new modern buildings with modern Apartments, Maisonettes, and Penthouses.

6. Mosta

7. Rabat, Malta

Rabat, Malta is another village filled with traditional Maltese buildings. It’s proximity to Mdina, and countryside, makes it a great place to live in as a family. It is a short drive away from Buskett Garden, one of the largest woodland areas. One can find many
open spaces to enjoy some outdoor time with the family.

8. Dingli

Dingli is a little bit distant locality, but its peace, quiet and beauty make it great choice for nature lovers. Surrounded by fields, rising on top of the Malta, Dingli is the most airy and fresh locality where many Maltese go for walks along stunning Dingli cliffs.

It is an excellent locality for family people with clean lovely streets, very small number of cars and excellent primary school.

9. Marsascala

If your family, enjoys the sea, Marsascala is a great place and is located in the south of the Maltese islands. Marsascala is “the Capital of the South”, and during the last decade has seen a significant increase in Apartment buildings. The locality transformed itself from a summer residence village to a lively permanent residence locality.

One can enjoy a walk by the seaside and during the summer months enjoy a swim. Since the community is young in age, one can find many family friendly amenities in the area. Marsascala boasts with one of the best areas for great restaurants.

10. Zurrieq

If Marsascala can be called Capital of the South, Zurrieq is surely Soul of the South. Village with incredible cultural heritage, loads of places to visit, lively village life oriented to family, festa and traditions.

Zurrieq is a great place surrounded with beautiful countryside, and Wied Iz-Zurrieq incredible crystal clear blue-sea tiny harbour providing plenty of joy to people who love sea and nature.

 

Generally speaking, all Maltese towns and villages are family-friendly and offer amenities where the family can enjoy some quality times. However, some localities due to their positions can offer more the possibility of enjoying fresh air and countryside and all within a walking distance.
